Dear Doctor Soltero
My dear friend, and your client, Helen Funk, told me about you and your book. I used to be a professional Farrier, working mostly with the Vets in our area. Helen was one of my clients, and like most of my clients, and their animals, became a dear friend of mine. I am now an incomplete paraplegic due to screw-ups at one of our hospitals when they miss-diagnosed a spinal cord blockage, I now wheel through life in a wheel chair.
While I was reading your book and remarking to my wife about it, she went to our bookcase and brought out a book from 1984 entitled " the Complete Herbal Handbook For The Dog and Cat" It is authored by Juliette de Bairacli Levy. She is a strict advocate for a " raw meat" diet for dogs and cats. She also has a wonderful section on "the use of herbs in canine and feline ailments."
My wife was not exaclty sure why she bought the book. She thinks she was trying to find a rememdy for one of our dog's years ago. We had about 15 dogs in our 35 years of marriage. Most of them have been put down because of cancer or kidney failure.
We currently have a 12 year old Shephard mix ( found running the streets about 11 years ago) and a 5 yr old purebreed Aussie who the coyotes left mangled at our home one morning when she was 3 monthes old.
This morning for their breakfast I started introducing them to a raw meat diet. I started with about 1/2 their regular dry food, a niece piece of Stew Meat, a little natural yogurt, and some wheat germ and cut up some fresh broccoli. They ate like they were in heaven.
God bless you and your wonderful work. It is appreciated all the way down here in Tuscon
Sincerely,
Rick Stengel
I cannot thank you enough for your urging and encouragement to make a change in what I feed my two boxers. Happily, for them and for me I finally listened!
For almost two monthes, they have been on a diet of brown rice and mixed vegetables added to raw buffalo meat. They literally run to their food bowls; the youger boxer is a pogo stick jumping up and down with anticipation. They think goat yogart is dessert!
They are alert.... ... their coat shine ..... they are happy dogs!
Thank you,
Myrna
